darker...and darker...and darker

I often see photography as a metaphor - representing something of our inner world in - and to - the outside world. Something that, perhaps, yearns to be spoken or expressed without having (needing) the words to do so. And yet sometimes (often?), the process - the final product - the end photograph - surprises me. It's as if the external world is expressing itself to my inner world instead. This was one of those images. The shell was found as the sky was deepening in preparation to let loose in its awesome power of storm & wind. As I post-processed this image from the safety of my house while the wind & rain rattled outside, its lack of clarity (metaphor much?) didn't stop me from continuing to pursue this image as it kept getting darker - and darker - and darker...
